It is advised that victims of domestic violence get a solicitor for domestic violence order applications. For victims who cannot afford a solicitor it is possible to apply to the Legal Aid Board for Civil Legal Aid or act as a lay litigant.
The Legal Aid Board has produced a very useful document explaining all aspects of Domestic Violence, including the law and processes surrounding an application to court for protection.
